Our vision

Our vision is to drive innovative research to reduce harm from blast injuries.

The IBRN aims to address the global issues of blast injury through multi-disciplinary activities including clinical, engineering and public health approaches, focused on generating evidence through research, priority-setting and promoting research uptake to reduce harm and suffering.

In addition to research, the IBRN facilitates cooperation and collaboration between academia, industry, clinicians, defence and humanitarian organisations.

Our Story

The International Blast Injury Research Network (IBRN) is a interdisciplinary network launched by the University of Southampton . Five years ago, we identified that leading blast research was primarily focused on military, not civilian, situations and perspectives. Addressing this gap, we brought together the multidisciplinary IBRN team to improve research within the civilian context and at a holistic level.

The IBRN catalysed dialogue between the fields of Blast Engineering & Injury Modelling; Public Health; Epidemiology; Traumatology and Critical Care; Operational Research; and Clinical Informatics. This fostered collaboration among academia, clinicians, humanitarian organisations and others - facilitating ongoing multidisciplinary research into the humanitarian consequences of blast injury.
